Precise tracking and long-term retention is crucial in the document management industry, but has traditionally been inefficient. The recent rise of regulatory burdens such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Sarbanes-Oxley has only exacerbated the problem.

An increasing number of companies are analyzing and/or acquiring electronic communication archives to satisfy their compliance obligations under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.  Too few of these companies are armed with the necessary knowledge to examine the various technologies in this field to determine which solution best meets their needs.  In this discussion we examine the myriad issues that revolve around electronic communications retention and retrieval with respect to business records compliance.
