The Online Disaster-Planning Tool
Most
records managers recognize the need for disaster planning. But disaster
planning is often put on the back burner as employees juggle day-to-day
tasks. Nearly five years after 9/11, most records repositories still do not
have an effective, up-to-date disaster plan. (The records manager who is
given the task of writing the disaster plan faces an array of information
– some good, some bad – in books and on the Internet. Often the finished
document is not as comprehensive as desired, and practicing the plan is
overlooked.) Ms. Foley will provide the tools, advice, and encouragement
needed to complete and practice a disaster plan.

In the U.S., many myths pervade the thoughts of people in business and
government as they consider the matter of recordkeeping, records management
and records retention. During the past 30 years, I have talked with
thousands of these people, and have listened as they articulated these
myths. It is sometimes difficult to understand where these myths originated
or how they grew to permeate the thinking of so many people in
organizational life. But, for those of us who practice records management,
it is certainly useful to take these myths to task; that is, to examine them
critically and, to the extent that they are false, to debunk them with
reality / wisdom in place of the falsehoods. In this presentation, we will
examine ten myths in records management / retention, and debunk them with
the most current legal realities.

The purpose of this
presentation is to provide the ARMA Boston community with a current
perspective on RM trends related to Instant Messaging (IM) technologies.
The number of instant messages being exchanged is expected to soon
eclipse email exchanges.
As organizations use IM as a legitimate communication exchange, the reality
is that IM messages must be in alignment with the company’s overall
records management strategy. A
number of IM products have been introduced, including company hosted
Enterprise IM servers, IM Gateways and extensive IM APIs for integration
into key business applications.
