End-of-Year Event

We hope you’ll plan to join us Thursday, June 4 at the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center at Boston University as we house our end-of-the-year event!  Here are all the details:

Date/Time: June 4, 2015, 4:00-7:00pm

Location: The Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center at Boston University, located in the Mugar Memorial Library (MUG) at 771 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA, 02215 (Map: http://www.bu.edu/maps/index.php?id=249)

Transportation: We suggest taking the MBTA, as there is a Red Sox game scheduled that day, and parking may be difficult.  The closest MBTA stop is Boston University Central Station.

Cost: Free for members, $15 for non-members.  We ask all attendees to register and pay in advance to minimize the amount of transactions at the door.  This is also important so that we plan the food & beverages appropriately.

About the venue:  Instituted in 1963 as the “Special Collections,” the center was renamed in 2003 to honor its founder, the “Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center.”  Its mission is to capture and document history by collecting the manuscripts from individuals who play a significant part in the fields of journalism, poetry, literature and criticism, dance, music, theater, film, television, and political and religious movements.

About the event: We are thrilled to be guests of the Gotlieb Center where they are hosting a reception and a presentation to our membership and guests.  Hear one of the directors speak about the beginnings of the Center, what made Dr. Gotlieb a visionary, who they collect and how they make use of that material by supporting research and offering educational programs.  You’ll get a fascinating peek at Boston’s well-kept secret archives—including collections from fascinating individuals such as:  Florence Nightingale, Dan Rather, Lauren Bacall, Leonard Nimoy, and Robin Williams---just to name a few.  Although contemporary public figures is the specialty of the Center, there are substantial holdings of earlier historical documents and over 140,000 rare books.

A reception with light hors d’oeuvres and beer/wine will be served, and we will be announcing the winner of the ARMA International Conference Giveaway!  We hope you can join us as we wrap up a great 2014-2015 ARMA Boston Chapter season!
