"Legal
Issues in Records Management Myths and Realities"
Luncheon Presentation at Davio's Cambridge

Presented
by: David
Stephens, CRM, FAI "Zasio"
Sponsored
by: Hummingbird
Overview:
In
the U.S., many myths pervade the thoughts of people in business and
government as they consider the matter of recordkeeping, records management
and records retention. During the past 30
years, I have talked with thousands of
these people, and have listened as they articulated these myths.
It is sometimes difficult to understand where these myths originated or how
they grew to permeate the thinking of so many people in organizational life.
But, for those of us who practice records management, it
is certainly useful to take these myths to task; that is, to examine them
critically and, to the extent that they are false, to debunk them with
reality / wisdom in place of the falsehoods.
In this presentation, we will examine
ten myths in records management / retention, and debunk them with the
most current legal realities.
